It was a challenging proposition, an exciting proposal . . . raising $80,000 in 36 hours in observance of NSU’s Founders Day 2015. But because of the generosity of 380 donors, NSU, not only reached its goal, but exceeded it by raising $92,500. The first-ever fundraiser of its kind for NSU, the Day of Giving launched Thursday, September 17, at noon and ended the next day at 11:59 p.m. It was an intense 36-hour countdown with donors calling on their friends, family and acquaintances via social media to meet the challenge. The financial donations received will continue this legacy by helping another generation of students benefit from an NSU education.
We chose this time of year . . . Founders Day to launch this unique fundraising campaign because, “Founders Day is a time to reflect on all that the university has done for the community and the global society,” said Dr. Deborah C. Fontaine, interim vice president for University Advancement, during an interview on Spartan Life Radio.
Dr. Fontaine also said that it’s so important for those who have benefitted from an institution of higher learning to give back. “The cost of education has exponentially increased over the years.”
