Norfolk State University students swept the poster presentation category at the 73rd Joint Annual Meeting of Beta Kappa Chi (BKX) and the National Institutes of Science (NIS) National Conference held in April. Hosted jointly by Norfolk State University and Hampton University April 6-9, the conference theme was Stem Cells and Their Role in Disease Prevention and the Cure.
NSU continued its superior record of excellence in research and scholarship with the following wins:
- Matthew Carey—1st place- Environmental Science: Biology (Senior)
- Taylor Ribeiro—2nd place-Chemistry: Biology (Junior)
- Keonna Hayes—3rd place-Biology :Biology (Senior)

NSU chapter advisor Maureen Scott, assistant professor of biology, was elected BKX national historian 2016-17.
