Former NSU men’s basketball standout Kyle O’Quinn will participate in graduation ceremonies on May 7. O’Quinn, who now plays for the NBA’s New York Knicks, will receive his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. As a Spartan, O’Quinn played at Norfolk State from 2008-12. He led NSU to its first-ever MEAC Men’s Basketball championship in 2012, and was named the MEAC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and MEAC Tournament MVP.
O’Quinn and the Spartans pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history when 15th-seeded NSU defeated No. 2 seeded Missouri, 86-84, in Omaha, Nebraska. O’Quinn was a second-round NBA Draft selection of the Orlando Magic in 2012 and played three seasons for Orlando before signing with his hometown team, the New York Knicks, in 2015. At Norfolk State University, dreams do come true.
