Attorney and Comedienne Serves as L.E.A.D. Speaker

Launched in 2014, by the Division of Student Affairs the Leadership, Education and Development (L.E.A.D.) series challenges the traditional lecture series via a contemporary approach that engages students in powerful, interactive discussions centered around today’s hottest topics. This year’s Homecoming 2016 L.E.A.D. speaker is attorney Lecia J. Rives.  A prolific speaker, writer and comedienne, Rives is captivating her audiences across the globe.  She received her B.S. from Tennessee State University and her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and she is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.

Rives is the founder and president of Speak uP! Enterprise, a motivational speaking, publishing and training company based in St. Louis, Missouri. She is the author of Get Up and Be Somebody®, an adjunct instructor of public speaking at Washington University, a contributing writer for In Magazine and a former feature writer for Heart & Soul Online. She is also the voice of the Get Up and Be Somebody® Motivational Moment on iHeart Radio in St. Louis.

Rives is the creator and host of Laugh Out Loud St. Louis, an award-winning clean television comedy show produced by her company LJR Entertainment LLC which also produced the documentary, The Color of Healing and her one-woman show, Dreamin Outta My Mind in which she wrote and performs across the country.
