For the first time in many decades, NSU graduating seniors may have the opportunity to sleep-in on their special day . . . commencement. That’s right, NSU’s May 6 ceremony — the University’s 100th Commencement — will take place at 4 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope Arena. Parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins — the whole family will now have time for a leisurely breakfast at a favorite restaurant before making the trek to the Norfolk Scope for the graduation ceremony.
From all reports, most graduating seniors are cool about the later start time. NSU gets the 4 p.m. start time due to a scheduling conflict with another event at the downtown Norfolk facility. The Norfolk Scope Arena is located at 201 E. Brambleton Avenue between St. Paul’s Boulevard and Monticello Avenue.
The Office of University Events provides Commencement 101 Sessions for May 2017 graduates to provide important details to help students prepare for their commencement. To improve the experience and services, University Events also surveys all participants including external audiences and provides the data to commencement planners, volunteers and University leadership. Students who may have missed any sessions, practices, etc. should call the Office of University Events at 757-823-8323
A commencement ceremony ticket for commencement is required for all guests of the graduates who plan to participate in the ceremony at the Norfolk Scope. Each graduate will receive 10 tickets to distribute to family and friends. Graduates do not need tickets. All guests over the age of two years will be required to have a ticket in order to gain access to the venue.
