Employee Service Awards

Make your plans now to join the NSU family Friday, April 28, 2017, in the Student Center, Room 149, as we acknowledge the faithful and dedicated service of 113 of our colleagues who will be recognized for their service to the Commonwealth of Virginia. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and end with a reception. All faculty, administrators and staff are invited.

Professor Invited to Participate in Faculty Study Tour

Professor Carol Pretlow

Professor Carol J. Pretlow, associate professor in the Political Science Department, has been accepted to participate in the faculty study tour and professional development seminar, “Academic Partners for Peace: Conflict, Peacemaking and Peacebuilding in the Context of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.” The seminar is scheduled to be held from June 14 – June 23 2017.

Student Wins Prize at Emerging Researchers National Conference

NSU student researcher Raisa Kellen Barrera won third place in the Undergraduate Poster in Ecology, Environmental and Earth Sciences at the 2017 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference on STEM held last month in Washington, D.C. Barrera competed with more than 1,100 presenters.

Cyber Security Summer Academy

NSU will host a Cyber Security Summer Academy June 19-23. Sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and the Information Assurance Research, Education and Development Institute (IA-REDI), the academy will give participants the opportunity to explore techniques universally used to fight cyber criminals, learn techniques to protect computer networks and data from attacks and unauthorized access and solve a computer forensics case using techniques learned in the camp. Shiloh Baptist Church Hosts Community Day Event

Shiloh Baptist Church will promote community unity during its annual Community Service Day, Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.- noon. This will be a day to enrich the neighboring communities. Each year this vital ministry grows, with hundreds of visitors demonstrating its tremendous value to the Hampton Roads Community. The event will include the Shiloh Baptist Church Food Pantry Ministry food give-away; a health fair, which will provide various screenings and healthier lifestyles information; representatives from various community service agencies; a nutritionist to provide information on making better food choices and Zumba exercises to help everyone shed some of those unwanted calories. For additional information, please call Reverend Karen Jones at (757) 625-4367.
