President Moore Announces Retirement

Norfolk State University’s sixth president, Eddie N. Moore, Jr., announced his retirement to the Board of Visitors effective December 2017. The Board formally accepted Moore’s retirement decision at a special call meeting back in September. President Moore was hired in 2013 when NSU was going through a particularly tough period. Most notably, the University was placed on sanction by its accrediting body the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Drawing on his years of sterling leadership and outstanding service to the Commonwealth of Virginia, President Moore provided the necessary leadership to fully correct those deficiencies and restore the University’s good standing with SACSCOC within a two-year period. Also, under his leadership, NSU has seen a promising improvement in its enrollment, retention and graduation rates.*
